What is a paddle holster?

Paddle holster design involves an attachment (paddle) that can slide in and out of the waistband without the need to unbuckle the belt or to slide it through belt loops. This makes it a convenient choice when the holster needs to be attached and removed frequently throughout the day.

Can I use a paddle holster for different types of handguns?

Paddle holsters are suitable for most semi-autos and revolvers. They are better suited for light weight guns like BERSA 380, Walther PPK, Colt Officer’s, KAHR, GLOCK 42 / 43 / 26 / 27 and S&W small J Frame revolvers because the heavier the gun, the more it tends to tilt out from the waistline. They also work with full size pistols like Colt / Kimber 1911, Beretta 92, Sig P220 / P226, most medium to large frame GLOCK models as well as revolvers like Smith & Wesson K / L / N frame with 4” barrel. We recommend a sturdy gun belt with paddle holsters for full size guns, like Master’s thick bullhide gun belt.

What are paddle holsters made of?

Paddle holsters consist of two parts: the holster and the paddle. The holster part can be made with a variety of materials: leather, kydex, plastic, etc. The Paddle part is usually made of hard plastic or kydex. Master’s Paddle Holsters are made from top grain cowhide leather and an adjustable paddle made from hard plastic. They are available in two designs: Open Top and with Retention Strap.

Are paddle holsters secure?

Convenience ( i.e. ease of attaching and removing the holster) is the main idea behind Paddle holster design, but if not used properly, convenience may come at the expense of safety. There are a few important safety considerations for Paddle Holsters: make sure to wear a sturdy and tight belt like Master’s thick bullhide gun belt and make sure the barbs on the paddle catch on to the bottom of the belt. If used without a belt, or if the barbs on the paddle are not properly seated on the bottom of the belt, the paddle may come out with the holster when drawing the gun or during vigorous activity. Never use a paddle holster with elastic waist pants without a sturdy belt. For added safety, we also offer a paddle holster with retention strap.

Are paddle holsters good for concealed carry?

Overall, convenience ( i.e. ease of attaching and removing the holster) rather than concealment is the main idea behind Paddle holster design. Paddle holsters tend to print more than other types of belt holsters because of the bigger gap needed for the paddle between the waist and the holster. Depending on one’s body type and choice of clothing, this can be offset to a certain degree with loose clothing for concealment purposes. Master’s paddle holsters come with an adjustable paddle which lets the user wear it at different cants and positions on the body, including Cross Draw and SOB, which may help with concealment purposes.
